Rodin+

Autumnal weather has returned.  The air is crisp.  The lighting is warm.  Looming, cumulus clouds contrast against the deep azure sky.  These types of days are perfect for enjoying the outdoors. Being the first Sunday of the month (when select museums are free to the public), we decided to try to find a participating museum outside of Paris.  Today's destination-  The Rodin Museum in Meudon- a 20 minute drive from our 'hood.

While Rodin's original works in marble and bronze are housed in the main museum in Paris, this location contains many of the plaster casts used to create many of his famous pieces - the kiss, hells door, balzac, et al.  The museum is on the grounds of Rodin's home (the villa des brillants).  Both the house and his artist studio are maintained as it was when Rodin inhabited the place. It has a lovely garden, not many flowers, but an expansive lawn that is makes for a nice meander while you are there.  There is also another statue of the famous Thinker that sits as a grave marker above where Rodin is buried. I was never one who liked visiting cementeries, but it was nice to see the Thinker up close and personal without having to wait for tourist emulating the obligatory pose in front of it.

If you prefer to do the whole tourist thing without knocking elbows with the hundreds of other people straining to to try to take their money shot of art work, then this museum makes for a nice visit. You won't spend the entire day there, but it does make for a nice morning trip.
